In the book The Art and Power of Being a Lady, Dini von Mueffling writes: “What is a lady? Dignity and grace, for sure. Self-confidence, independence, a sense of right and wrong and the strength to act on it, a sense of social responsibility, humor, style, and good manners. Above all, consideration of others.” For over a century, Kappa Deltas have been striving to develop these attributes based on our open motto: “Let us strive for that which is honorable, beautiful and highest.” For most of us “striving for the honorable, beautiful and highest” seems like a lofty goal. Where do we start? How do we become the women we desire to be? After careful thought and consideration, Kappa Delta developed “Setting the PACE” to help its members become the best they can be. We have determined four areas of concentration which make up “P-A-C-E”: Personal Presence, Attitude, Communication, Enlarging Our World. These elements are woven throughout Kappa Delta’s programs, policies and principles. This part of the Web site will allow individuals – both collegians and alumnae – to explore the areas of “Setting the PACE” through quizzes and exercises for self-discovery. The quizzes, tips and resources provided here can also be used by the PACE chairperson to foster the PACE philosophy in the chapter. For instance, the PACE chairperson can print out the tip of the week to post in the chapter house or share during a chapter meeting. The resource section can be used for further individual study or to plan a chapter retreat, member education workshop or alumnae association gathering. Finally, you can share your thoughts and advice about “Setting the PACE” in the “What You Are Saying” section.
